6 Gardening Events around Auckland

One thing that’s great about gardening is that you can always find other people who love gardening as much as you do and there are a variety of different gardening groups out there that you can join. Likewise, during the summer there are a lot of gardening events happening around Auckland that you can attend and make some new gardening friends. Here is a list of gardening events that are happening around Auckland that you can attend in the next few months.

1. Seasonal Gardening Workshop (This week and April Dates)

This event is all about learning how to sow, plant, harvest, create a worm farm and care for your garden. This community event is for any gardener- experience or beginner. After this event you will walk away with new gardening skills, some nature loving friends and will have gained practical experience in organic gardening. Time: 10am-12pm

Location: Triangle Park Teaching Garden, 385 Don Buck Road, Massey, Auckland

2. Edible Gardening in Green Bay (March)

This event takes place once a week for five weeks starting in March. Throughout the 5 weeks, they will cover different topics that will give you the information you need to grow your own edible garden.

Week 1: (4/3/20): Make your own seed raising mix, potting mix, plant seeds, container garden basics, growing microgreens, edible flowers.
Week 2: (11/3/20): Worm farm basics, worm tea, making leaf mould, hugelkultur basics, irrigation short cuts.
Week 3:(18/3/20): Herb gardens, Bee friendly gardening, fruit tree guilds and beneficial companion plants.
Week 4: (25/3/20): Compost: cold compost, hot compost, trench composting for small spaces, managing invasive weeds and green waste.
Week 5:(1/4/20): Basic biodynamic practices for the home garden. Goethean Observation, meditation and journaling exercises: exercises in mindfulness for the gardener.

The event cost $5 per week for the cost of the materials (seeds, Soil ect.), so $25 in total.

3. Sunday Plant Sale (March and April)

If you’re a gardener looking to buy new plants, this is the event for you. Choose from a wide variety of plants and take home some gorgeous plants.

Date of event: Sunday 1st March and Sunday 5th of April 2020

Time: 9am

Location: Auckland Botanic Gardens, 102 Hill Road, Manurewa, Auckland

4. Auckland Plant Market (April)

This is another great event for gardeners that want to expend their gardening tool collection and plant collection. Everything plant related in one spot! From plants to planters, pots, botanical jewelry and skincare. Not only can you buy all things plant related, but they will have coffee and live music as well.

5. Plant based Workshop (March)

This event is for gardeners that already have a veggie garden and need inspiration on how to using their veggie in meals. This workshop is all about introducing more plant-based meals into your diet.

Tickets are $95 per person or $150 for 2 people

This includes a goodie bag, recipes and a 4-week meal planner.

Date of event: March 21st 2020

6. Advanced Home Gardening with Pakaraka Permaculture.

If you are an experienced gardener this is the event for you! This workshop will advance your agriculture skills by covering essential topics that will help your garden grow more productively this year. Instructed by Yotam Kay, who grows 10,000 kgs of veggies each season and established Pakaraka Permaculture. This event will cover over 15 topics including growing year-round for a 4-season harvest and how to plant in the garden.

To bring: A plate to share for a potluck lunch. Morning and afternoon tea will be provided.
