There are many reasons why trimming your properties trees frequently is beneficial and saves trouble in the future, however trimming trees near or under power lines is essential.

New Zealand citizens are legally obligated to trim their trees away from any power lines and ensure their trees are at least four meters away.

This is due to the fact that having trees too close to power lines is dangerous, as a branch can fall on the power line and cause a power outage for your whole area or kids can climb up the tree and get hurt by the power lines.

Things to do to avoid your trees being too close to power lines

  1. Avoid planting trees near or under power lines.
  2. Prune your trees at least once a month to ensure trees don’t become overgrown.
  3. Research and plant smaller trees that don’t grow as high as the power lines.

If your trees are within 4 meters of the power line you must hire a qualified tree service company to trim the trees back.
