- Heucheras (Coral Bells)
Add either a purple, red or lime green Heucheras to your shaded garden to bring colour or a little bit of texture.
These shaded plants do best with 4 hours of sunlight but are hardy plants and are known to survive in any lighting conditions.
Ensure you keep them in moist soil, if possible, but they can last about a week without being watered.
- (The ZZ Plant) Zamioculcas Zamiifolia
Growing about a meter high, these plants belong to the arum family.
These plants do not like direct sunlight and are great for beginner plant lovers because they are extremely resilient.
When caring for these plants, ensure that the soil is dry before watering again to prevent root rot.
Always wash your hands after touching the plant and keep away from children and pets, as touching this plant may cause skin irritation.
- Philodendron
A simple plant that loves the shade and grows at heights around 90 cm to 1.2 meters high. They thrive in moist soil but ensure you do not over water the plant. This wonderful plant does not involve a lot of pruning.
- Rhapis Palm
Native to China, this plant is a great addition to your shaded garden. Growing to heights between 1.8 to 4.5 meters tall, this palm does not like direct sunlight.
- Cast Iron Plant (Aspidistra)
Like it’s name, this plant can survive in many different living conditions, which is ideal for your shaded yard. It is known to have survived in low to high temperature terrain and doesn’t mind direct or indirect sunlight. Growing to a height of 1 meter, it is perfect for any size garden.
Ferns
If you want some texture added to your shaded garden, add a fern!
These stunning plants thrive in shaded, moist areas. They come in different types such as hen and chicken fern, black mamaku, wheki fern, Holly Fern and silver fern.
They can reach a height of up to 1 meter
Hydrangea
Hydrangeas are hardy shrubs that add vibrance with their brightly colored flowers.
These plants love a well shaded spot as their flowers last longer in shaded areas.
One of the cool things about this plant is that the flower colour changes with the different type of soil it is in.
To get the best result, plant hydrangeas in Spring or Autumn.
These plants can grow up to 1.5 meters.
